{"id":54,"date":"2017-09-24T16:37:27","date_gmt":"2017-09-24T15:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drinkdriving.org\/info\/?p=54"},"modified":"2021-01-29T15:05:40","modified_gmt":"2021-01-29T15:05:40","slug":"medical-after-drink-driving-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drinkdriving.org\/info\/medical-after-drink-driving-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Do I need a dvla medical after drink driving ban?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Do I need to have a DVLA medical in order to get my driving licence after being disqualified for drink driving?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Only those classed as <em>&#8216;high risk offenders&#8217;<\/em> will need to take and pass a DVLA medical before a driving licence will be issued to them after their disqualification has ended.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You will be classed as a high risk offender if:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You have been disqualified by order of a court for having a proportion of alcohol in your body that equalled or exceeded:\n<ul>\n<li>87.5 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath, or<\/li>\n<li>200 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of blood, or<\/li>\n<li>267.5 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine; or<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You have been disqualified by order of a court for failing, without reasonable excuse, to provide a breath, blood or urine sample when required to do so; or<\/li>\n<li>You have been disqualified by order of a court for failing, without reasonable excuse, to give permission for a laboratory test to be carried out on a sample of blood that was taken when your were incapable of consenting; or<\/li>\n<li>You have been disqualified by order of a court on two or more occasions within a 10 year period under section 4 (<em>driving or being in charge when under the influence of drink or drugs<\/em>)\u00a0or section 5 (<em>driving or being in charge with alcohol concentration above the legal limit<\/em>) of the Road Traffic Act 1988.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkdriving.org\/dvla-medical.php\">DVLA Medical Examination<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sentencing courts do not automatically inform someone that they are a high risk offender. The DVLA should notify you in writing, after your court case,\u00a0that you are classed as a high risk offender.<\/p>\n<p>Those classed as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/reapply-licence-revoked\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">high risk offenders can submit their application for a new driving licence<\/a> up to 90 days before their disqualification is due to end.<\/p>\n<p>You can find out the date your disqualification ends by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/view-driving-licence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">viewing your driving record online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is recommended that driving licence applications are submitted as soon as possible due to the length of time the DVLA medical process can take.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkdriving.org\/buy-cdt-test-kit\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drinkdriving.org\/assets\/images\/medical\/cdt-test.png\" alt=\"CDT Test\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do I need to have a DVLA medical in order to get my driving licence after being disqualified for drink driving?
